Overview of OMOTESANDO HELENE CLINIC

Founding and Facilities

OMOTESANDO HELENE CLINIC was founded in 2013 by Medical Director Dr. Takaaki Matsuoka. The clinic was among the early medical institutions in Japan to obtain certification for regenerative medicine involving intravenous stem cell infusion therapy.

The main clinic is located on the 3rd floor of the Aoyama OHMOTO Building, 5-9-15 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo. In Tokyo’s Omotesando area, the clinic operates two facilities providing regenerative medicine services. It also has branch offices in London and Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, as well as Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The clinic holds 15 stem cell therapy certifications issued by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Its affiliated facilities include a Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine Center, an in-house cell culture processing laboratory (In-house Lab), a Cell Processing Center (CPC), and a Single-Use Device (SUD) Medical Device Reprocessing Center.

As of December 2025, the institution has provided regenerative medicine services to more than 10,000 patients cumulatively.

Accreditations and Achievements

The clinic is a Japanese medical institution accredited by the American Board of Regenerative Medicine, and all physicians at the clinic are members of the organization. Its medical services are also certified by Global Clinic Rating, providing autologous mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy programs for international patients.

The clinic has independently developed its own stem cell culture medium, known as HELENE Medium, which does not contain any animal-derived serum components. The stem cell products manufactured using this technology have also received quality recognition from the European Society for Quality Research.

In addition, the clinic’s affiliated cell culture processing laboratory has obtained International Organization for Standardization.

The clinic’s academic advisor is Dr. Ravindra Gupta, while its Japanese advisor is Hosokawa Ritsuo.

Since 2023, Discovery Channel, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery, has collaborated with the clinic to produce a stem cell documentary series tracking the scientific outcomes of three patients who underwent autologous stem cell therapy.

Advanced Research and Core Services

OMOTESANDO HELENE CLINIC was founded in 2013 by Medical Director Dr. Takaaki Matsuoka. It was the first clinic in Japan to obtain certification for regenerative medicine involving intravenous stem cell infusion therapy. The clinic provides a wide range of services including stem cell regenerative medicine, anti-aging management, and cell culture processing and manufacturing research.

Dedicated to advancing clinical applications and research in stem cell medicine, the clinic brings together an international team of physicians and scientists to provide comprehensive health management services.

OMOTESANDO HELENE CLINIC is headquartered on the 3rd floor of the Aoyama OHMOTO Building, 5-9-15 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo. The clinic currently operates two facilities in Tokyo’s Omotesando area providing regenerative medicine services, with additional branch offices located in London and Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, as well as Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The institution holds 15 stem cell therapy certifications issued by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. As of December 2025, it has cumulatively provided regenerative medicine services to more than 10,000 patients.

Comprehensive Healthcare Programs

Founded in 2013, OMOTESANDO HELENE CLINIC was the first institution in Japan to obtain certification for regenerative medicine involving intravenous stem cell infusion therapy. In 2024, the clinic received accreditation from the American Board of Regenerative Medicine.

Since 2023, Discovery Channel, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery, has collaborated with the institution to produce a stem cell documentary following the scientific outcomes of three patients undergoing autologous stem cell therapy. The documentary premiered in Asia in 2024.

The clinic provides regenerative medicine services including stem cell therapy, anti-aging management, and cell culture processing and manufacturing research. It also offers comprehensive wellness and preventive healthcare programs that are not limited to acute medical treatment, including stem cell regenerative therapy, NK cell therapy, fibroblast therapy, blood purification, exosome therapy, conditioned media therapy, health management, and early cancer screening services.

Currently, the clinic operates two facilities in Tokyo’s Omotesando district offering autologous mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy services, while maintaining international branches in London, Edinburgh, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.

Our Professional Medical Team

The clinic’s professional medical team is led by Dr. Takaaki Matsuoka, a physician certified by the American Board of Regenerative Medicine and a Doctor of Medicine, who serves as the Chief Director of HELENE GROUP.

Dr. Nana Kobayashi, a specialist in surgery, serves as the Director of HELENE CLINIC, while Dr. Takaaki Itohara, a cardiovascular surgeon, serves as the Director of HELENE AO BLDG. CLINIC.

The clinic’s core medical team also includes:

  • Dr. Nobuhito Ueda, specialist in surgery
  • Dr. Yuzo Terakawa, board-certified surgeon
  • Dr. Yasuharu Azuma, emergency medicine physician
  • Dr. Yurie Hara, specialist in obstetrics and gynecology
  • Dr. Mikuru Matsuoka, dentist

Together, they form the institution’s multidisciplinary medical leadership team.

In the areas of legal and international advisory support, the clinic has appointed Hosokawa Ritsuo as its Japanese legal advisor, while Dr. Ravindra Gupta serves as the academic advisor, providing comprehensive expertise and professional guidance across multiple disciplines.

Laboratory Facilities and Quality Control

The clinic holds 15 stem cell therapy certifications issued by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Its stem cell treatment programs cover a broad range of indications, including hair loss, facial injection therapy for anti-aging purposes, periodontal disease, male erectile dysfunction, chronic cerebral infarction, Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM), Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), arteriosclerosis, immune aging, female hormonal imbalance, neurodegenerative disorders, and PRP-related therapies.

Supported by its in-house cell culture processing laboratory (In-house Lab) and its proprietary animal serum-free culture medium, HELENE Medium, the clinic is capable of culturing up to 2.25 billion mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) within approximately four weeks.

The institution’s In-house Lab has obtained International Organization for Standardization certification. The laboratory environment is maintained with ISO Class 5 (Class 100) clean air supplied directly within the operating workstations to ensure continuous sterility during cell culture procedures.

Its facilities include:

During cell expansion procedures, the laboratory minimizes microscopic particle contamination to maintain a sterile environment at all times. In addition, barcode and QR-code management systems are utilized throughout the entire cell culture workflow, enabling the clinic to establish a proprietary operational management system with rigorous quality control standards.
